Participation in a prestigious congress

Czech paediatric oncology is at an absolutely top level. Both centres – in Prague and Brno – belong to the European extraliga of paediatric oncology. The proof is also last year’s invited lecture of our professor MUDr. Jaroslav Štěrba, Ph.D., at the prestigious congress organized by the International Society for Pediatric Oncology (SIOP 2024) in Hawaii.

Cooperation with ALSAC

In 2024, the Krtek COEF became the first non-profit organisation in the Czech Republic to join the global team of St. Jude and ALSAC (American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities). Thanks to this collaboration, Krtek COEF representatives can now participate in international conferences and educational programmes held around the world. The partnership also includes regular consultative meetings with experts, enabling Krtek COEF to expand its knowledge and gain a more profound understanding of paediatric oncology and the non-profit sector within a global context. This global network unites hospitals, foundations, and medical institutions that collaborate to enhance the quality of care and boost survival rates for children with cancer and other serious illnesses. ALSAC collaborates with over 130 non-profit organisations in 64 countries, fostering a distinctive international community that shares knowledge, expertise, and innovation for the benefit of patients.

Department Paediatric Oncology of the University Hospital Brno as ITCC Center

The Department of Paediatric Oncology of the University Hospital Brno and the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Brno officially ranks among the best of its kind in Europe! We have to be proud of this news – as the sixty-eighth workplace in the order under the leadership of Professor Jaroslav Štěrba, it has been certified as an ITCC Centre. “In practice, this means that we now have access to the complete European – and now North American – know-how in the field of paediatric oncology and that clinical trials and new drugs for patients will be available to us quickly,” explains Prof. Štěrba. Department Paediatric Oncology of the University Hospital Brno is part of CREATIC

The Central European Advanced Therapy and Immunotherapy Centre (CREATIC) is a new centre of excellence at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Medicine. Its main mission is to excel in the research, development and production of innovative medicines for advanced therapies, while also finding ways to make these expensive medicines more affordable for patients in need. This includes an anti-cancer vaccine for paediatric patients with rare, high-risk solid tumours, which is one of only two medicines in the cell therapy group. To date, more than 40 patients have been treated with this therapy in a clinical trial. Many of them are in long-term remission. Further information is available here.
